When I read and hear comments by African American celebrities, I am disheartened because they influence our culture, especially our youth, whether they want the “role model” designation or not — The “New Black” is a lost generation.
It would be great to see the world without viewing race, which is a social construction; however, America has not progressed in that way. It is naïve to view the world through a colorless lens when a colored lens is still applied to the African American existence. The “New Black” ideology is commendable because to not “be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character”(Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.) is the ultimate goal and ultimate measure of racial equality. Diversity is ideal and I promote diversity and multiculturalism wholeheartedly.
